¡Ay Que Rico!
Posted on August 27, 2010 · Leave a CommentDo you have a taste for cuchifrito, or bandeja paisa, or maybe un cevichito? ¡Ay que rico!
You can have it all at Miami’s Cultural Fridays tonight! It’s a street party celebrating the Latino community that makes up about 90% of the city’s population. This evening, starting at 6:30 pm, bring your family to enjoy a taste of Latino culture. Local restaurants such as El Cristo Restaurant, Casa Panza, and El Exquisito are just a few that will be offering menu specials and street food vendors will be serving the best of their home cooked dishes.
Take a short ride from your Latitudes at the Moors community to Calle Ocho, or 8th Street, in Little Havana and sample dishes from all over Central & Latin America, and the Caribbean too. You can also enjoy the freedom of dancing in the street to local musical talent and celebrate some of Miami’s best artists showcasing their work along your way. There will also be FREE walking tours of Little Havana and an exhibition at the historic Tower Theatre.

Miguel Paredes Fine Art Studio
Posted on August 23, 2010 · Leave a CommentThe grand opening to Miguel Paredes Fine Arts Studio was August 14th in the mist of the 2nd Saturday Art Walk in the Wynwood Art District. At the grand opening it was said that Paredes showcased a collection of his paintings along with new work that is said to be iconic. You still have a chance to view Miguel Paredes ongoing exhibition of one man’s journey through art from street graffiti to urban impressionism.
Mist, as Paredes was known from his street tagging days, has come a long way from New York City brick walls. His collection of eclectic work is an ensemble of street homage with a new found perceptiveness that comes with age and experience. His skill has grown into an environment without boundaries and has returned with a exhibition that will show Miami that he is still thriving with great artistic ability. As the artistic hues of Andy Warhol became his staple, Paredes’ 3-D experiment is believed to be his legacy as an artist. A must see exhibition just minutes from your Latitudes at the Moors community.

Beat The Recession Blues
Posted on August 6, 2010 · Leave a CommentIf you’ve been let go from a long time job or career over the past couple years, join the club. At this point in the Great Recession, a lot of Americans can say that same thing.
If you belong to that club, what are you doing with your free time? Going back to school? Getting additional job training? Volunteering? Are you doing anything to make a difference in your community?
If you answered a big, fat NO to all those questions, join the club, again…
Recent studies by The American Time Use Survey have shown that Americans are literally wasting their free time. Out-of-work Americans are NOT working out, going back to school, volunteering or gaining new job skills. What Americans have been doing over the past two years is sleeping more, eating more, and watching more television. Welcome to the Great Recession.
Why not beat the recession blues by becoming a volunteer or gaining new job skills? If that doesn’t charge your batteries, why not start a new work-out regimen at the Moors Fitness Center? Find a neighbor and go work out a few times a week! You’ll get fit and may even make connections leading to your next career!
Make the most of your free time by gaining new skills or volunteering. It’ll get you back in the swing of things in no time!
Get up and beat the blues!
The Benefits of Green Tea
Posted on August 5, 2010 · Leave a Comment
As an fully committed and deeply involved coffee drinker, I find myself intrigued FROM A DISTANCE by the health reports about GREEN TEA. I have tried it. And I do like it. But let’s face it, it’s not coffee. It’s not JOE. It’s not the brew from heaven’s gates … none-the-less, it’s hard to argue with what the experts are saying about the benefits.
The benefits of green tea creates an impressive list. For starters, it’s known to help prevent gum disease, plague build-up (which causes el stinko breath) and helps to fight cavities. As it boosts the immune system, this helps the body resist infections and on top of that, green tea is known to reduce the risk of breast cancer. The LIST OF GREEN TEA BENEFITS goes on and on!
Brew it at home or skip on over to Green Papaya on 67th for a piping hot cup!
Making Better Fast Food Choices
Posted on July 30, 2010 · Leave a CommentHow well do you know your fast foods? When it comes to eating out, it’s especially hard to know which foods are the worst offenders.
For instance, if you had to pick the healthiest breakfast between the following, which would you choose:
A) A Burger King Ham, Egg and Cheese Croissan’wich or
B) A Hardee’s Ham, Egg and Cheese Biscuit?
If you chose A, you chose wisely. At 360 calories, the BK breakfast beats out Hardee’s, weighing in at a whopping 560 calories.
It’s tough to eat out without completely undoing all the hard work we do at the Fitness Center, out on the tennis court or by simple careful eating … Especially if we’re forced to utilize Fast Food restaurants to accommodate a frantic lifestyle. While many quick-serve restaurants are now offering alternatives to fries and onion rings like fruit cups and salads, there are still a few mysteries to crack when it comes to making wise choices.
How well do you know your stuff? Take this EAT THIS – NOT THAT QUIZ and find out!
